Oll Sterno, whose drums propel the heartbeat of the group, began drumming, as his father did before him, at an early age. Rocking with r’n’b groups around London during the ‘60s and ‘70s, Oll formed a real love for the music of the time. After a successful teaching career in London, he moved to the Eastbourne area where he settled into the music scene starting with the Two Bob Band. No longer hoping for fame and fortune, Oll now simply enjoys creating live sounds in the company of talented musicians and interested punters!
Artist and retired teacher Andrew Forrest (guitar and vocals) first played in The Xiles, a school group that started off performing Shadows covers. He continued in bands in the USA, at Sussex University and in Nigeria, and later led his own 10-piece covers band. Andrew enjoys listening to a wide range of guitarists such as Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery and B.B.King, and bands ‘from the archive’ including Cream and Steely Dan. Ian Stabler (guitar and vocals) hails originally from Newcastle, though he lived in South Africa for 15 years. Ian first picked up a guitar when he was 15 and never put it down. ‘I had dreams of being the next Bob Dylan, and played in a folk trio. I loved the music of the sixties and seventies, and eventually settled into being a rhythm guitarist and singer with various rhythm and blues bands over the years.’ Born in Kenya, engineer Bob Mitchell (bass guitar) started playing in Somerset bands in the ‘60s, including Xenon and The Pride (a highlight of The Pride’s repertoire was Bob’s extended bass solo on Cream’s ‘I’m So Glad’). Bob is also a brass player and has played big band jazz. Bob retired from the band at the end of 2018. Mark Hurst replaced Bob in 2019, but a pandemic interrupted all plans and it would be 2 years later before the and were able to resume meaningful rehearsals. |
